Prairie Settlement I-House

Many people came to settle on the broad and noble prairie lands of Central Iowa. They broke the sod, built their homes, established schools and churches, and provided the economic base for the building of the town of Ackley. Many came from Germany, particularly East Friesland. Their devotion to family, church and community has extended to today's modern setting where those "small-town values" still have deep roots.

The 1870 Limburg I-House reflects the type of lifestyle of the early settlers. This house has been restored to its original state completely through the efforts of community volunteers working with the Heritage Center.
